Aeon Festival Encourages sci-fi Fancy Dress This Summer

The Aeon Festival at Shobrooke Park Estate in Devon will be hosting a 'Sci-fi Adventures' theme this summer, and all attendants are encouraged to wear fancy dress.

The event, which will be held from August 28 to August 30, is in its fourth year and hosts a range of music acts, with live bands playing everything from salsa to punk. What's more, the dance tent caters for techno and reggae, while comedy, poetry and jazz bands can be found in the bar area.

There will also be a Cinema Tent, screening short films and documentaries. And the festival will even hold its first ever urban stage, featuring hip-hop, breakdancing, MCs and graffiti artists.

In addition, a children's area will also be in operation, with art workshops and puppet theatre. Entry is free for under 12s, but they must be accompanied by an adult over 21 years old.

Fancy dress has always formed a large part of the Aeon Festival's relaxed, bohemian vibe. In 2007, the theme was 'The Enchanted Forest' and in 2008, festival-goers wore Alice in Wonderland costumes.

This year's 'Sci-fi Adventures' theme is sure to have people reaching for their favourite sci-fi film and tv fancy dress costumes. Organisers at the Aeon Festival advised: "Think Barbarella, Doctor Who, Star Trek, Star Wars and anything science fiction and you won't be far off."

Fancy dress has become a mainstay at music festivals across the UK in recent years. For instance, the eighth Standon Calling in Staffordshire will be hosting its annual fancy dress competition again this year.

And at the Bestival music event in the Isle of Wight in September, singer Lily Allen will be judging this year's costumes, which will revolve around its theme of 'A Space Oddity'.
