Bilton Gala fancy dress parade calls for entries

Residents of Bilton and neighbouring towns are being encouraged to don their most inspired costumes for the annual Bilton Gala fancy dress parade.

Entries are now welcome for the parade, which is to take place on Monday, May 4 bank holiday. This year's theme is Britain Through The Ages giving entrants plenty of scope for fantastic historical costumes - from outfits inspired by British myths and legends to 50's or 60's costumes.

Bilton's Gala is a riot of entertainment including stalls, children's entertainers and exotic animals, so popular that last year it drew 8000 guests. This year, the Knaresborough Post reports that particular highlights of the event will be a parade packed with floats and entertainers, which will travel from the gates of Meadowcroft to the field at Richard Taylor C of E School.

What's more, visitors and participants can enjoy an aerial circus performance above the arena from troupe Above and Beyond and a performance by the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service band, which will play in the parade.

Chairman Stuart Frost said: "We have got one of the best bands in the country leading the parade, so it will be a great occasion."

The Bilton Gala is a popular fun day out for young and old alike and Mr Frost encouraged: "The more the merrier."

Fancy dress fans can congregate in the main arena at 1.30pm for the fancy dress competition, where the best childrens costumes in one of two age categories will win a prize. Anyone wishing to take part in the main parade is welcomed to meet on Meadowcroft at 12pm on May 4.
