Fancy Dress Cup to be Awarded at Glastonbury Road Run
Participants at the 28th Glastonbury Road Run will have the opportunity to win a cup for the best fancy dress costume next month.
The event, which takes place on Sunday May 3rd, is expected to attract in excess of 1500 runners, some of whom will be professional or serious runners and others who will participate for fun.
The award for the best fancy dress will be judged and awarded by the Somerset Standard and Guardian, the area's local paper. Heart FM will also provide commentary before, during and after the race.
The annual run incorporates a range of different events. The one mile Primary Fun Run will open the proceedings at 10.45am, and is open to school children in year six or younger. Parents and grandparents are also welcome to run with their children in this race.
The main event of the day will be the "Round the Tor 10K", which attracts both local runners and professionals from across the UK.
Shortly after the 10K begins, the 5K and 3K races start too. All three events will come together at the end for a finish outside the Town Hall.
The eclectic mix of ages participating in the Glastonbury Road Run's various streams means that onlookers can expect an array of adults and childrens fancy dress to be eligible for the cup.
In June, Somerset will host the Glastonbury Festival, the UK's most famous music event. The festival is well-known for the crazy fancy dress that its revellers adopt, including anything from large afro wigs to full-blown pirate costumes such as Captain Jack Sparrow.
